Beginners Computer Class
Description: A class for teaching others to use the computer. Being a retirement community the need is there for our seniors to get more comfortable with computers, what better place to get instructions. It also helps our computer books check out better.
Specifics: We meet each Thursday at 10 a.m. and the class is over at 11:30 a.m. 1st Thursday we have Microsoft Word, 2nd Thursday we have Internet, 3rd Thursday we have E-Mail, 4th Thursday we have Basic Computer and on 5th Thursday’s we have a more detailed Microsoft Word.
Notes: You need a teacher who will not talk over their heads, be patient and expect the same questions over and over. Never click on key or move your mouse that you don’t tell them what you’re doing. They prefer the "Teach Yourself Visually" books to the "Dummies" or "Idiots" books. They are more encouraging to the student.
Experience with Program: I teach this class and I would not trade it for anything. They are very hungry for learning the computer and appreciate the time given. We have had complaints from local computer companies who say we are taking students away from them. When I explained that it is strictly introductory, they seem to think it’s okay.
